Salaam.
Peace. My name is Mahnaz Shabbir and I am an American Muslim Woman. I was born
in Philadelphia and currently live in the greater Kansas City area for the past 27 years.
Since
9/11, I’ve given over 100 talks involving the U.S. State Department, United States Army, churches, synagogues, schools,
universities, hospitals, women organizations and Muslim organizations.
I speak
about being an American Muslim Woman. I speak about my concerns living in my own country, the United States, enduring anti- Muslim feelings. Yes, I do this
to help me deal with this difficult status as a minority that sometimes seems to be intentionally misrepresented by the media
and by the government. But more importantly, I speak for my four sons and for all children- Muslim and non-Muslim.
I tell them to learn more about people of different
faiths and different races. I tell them to reach out and learn, and to realize that not everything that is printed is correct.
Not everyone in power matches the good-will toward others that is shared by most Americans.
Recently,
a short video about my talks was produced for a speakers bureau. It became apparent that an American Muslim Woman’s
story needed to be told on a
much wider basis.
I need
your help in raising funds to support a 50 minute short film that will be available
to public television, secondary schools, universities, various film festivals nationally and internationally.
I need
your support. Please consider a donation today. Thank you.
